Life is unfair, and Mr. Ransom Eli Olds knows something about it.
Mr. Olds founded his car company in 1897, it was the first car company in America. It produced 35 millions cars over its 107 years of existence.
Sadly, on April 29th 2004, Oldsmobile was cowardly sacrificed on the altar of idiocy.
To commemorate the 11 years anniversary of this tragic event, please show us your favorite Oldsmobile.

I almost bought one identical to the one in the picture a few years ago, but it needed too much work. I've owned two others. A '98 Cutlass, and a '99 Intrigue, and I liked both of them, but my favorite will always be
Fwd or not, I love the unapologetically aggressive look. Just awesome.

I just went through the list of Oldsmobiles and was shocked to find that there was not a single one made that I can say I like.

Go ahead and laugh at my beige Oldsmobile, I ain't even care.
I loved it. Reliable, handled pretty well for a FWD beigemobile, and was cheap too. I bought it after GM announced Oldsmobile was going away and prices fell. It lasted 90k for me and then another 100+k with my sister. She took after me and replaced it with a hardtop G6 convertible after they announced Pontiac's death. We are a family that loves our cheap GM orphans.

When I was in high school a friend of mine had a Toronado like that. His next car was a FIAT (124 I think, but I'm not certain). He kind of liked swinging between extremes.

My grandpa had one that he drove around the country selling insurance in after the war. By the time I had come around it had long since been relegated to a lawn ornament, but it certainly captured my attention.

It's probably still on the farm which my uncle owns now (haven't been back there in like 20 years though). Last time I saw it it was 98% rust and the interior was being used by the barn cats. Not in any way salvageable.
![]() 01/15/2015 at 13:14 |

definitely! Buy one now and shrink wrap it until Barrett-Jackson 2075

The last gen is my uncle's favorite also. I prefer the 1st gen because it looks so much like a space ship to me.

Yes, the original '66 Toronado is it for me. It was also one of the first retro cars - the entire design is directly inspired by the Cord 810/812.

Agreed. I fell in love with the first generation and the second just kept that love light burning.

425 cubic inch V8 churning out 385hp and 475ft/lb... to the front wheels! Later versions even got a 400hp, 500ft/lb version of the 455 rocket... but the pre-'68 cars looked the best.

I'll always have a soft spot for this car. Especially the red with a black top. The lines were very understated and back almost reminds me *just* a little of the old NSX.

I love the Aurora.
I would own one if there was any in my country.

They had a muscular look that really stood out from the rest of GM's horrid offerings in the 80's. Good call.

There are plenty of obvious classics from Oldsmobile, but I really have to show some love for the Oldsmobile Aurora. In fact, it's one of my automotive guilty pleasures and I'm pretty convinced that these could garner some collectors' interest in the future.
The car offered a large level of equipment, it had a fantastic suspension setup, the unibody construction was probably the stiffest thing offered by GM (or any company this side of Mercedes), and gawd it looks SO GOOD. I think it's one of the best-looking 4-doors, and an early attempt at that "four-door coupe" body style. Hard for me to believe that it came out in 1994. It's one of the best things General Motors had to offer, plus its 4.0 liter V-8 was adapted for use in the Shelby Series 1, IRL racers, and the Cadillac LMP.
I'm not saying that this will be a Barrett-Jackson type collectible, but I think there are enough interesting qualities about the car to make it stand out as unique. I certainly think it's something special from GM, especially given the time period in which it was built. They ride well, they're solid and agile for their size, they sound sweet, they look fantastic, the interior is plush and attractive, and they come from an otherwise unspectacular time for American cars. If Oldsmobile stuck around and experienced the same resurgence that the rest of GM have, I think they could aim for being America's Audi.
I forgot how much I liked the Aurora.

Pretty car. Elegant. Silver with brown puffy velour interior.
And: TOURING SUSPENSION option!
